Chess Boards
Chess boards are the stages upon which dramatic battles of wits unfold. Just like chess pieces they can be very simple or very ornate. But however much they may cost, they will almost invariably be configured in the same way.
Chess boards contain sixty-four spaces that alternate between white and black, or light or dark spaces. They are divided into eight rows and eight columns. The rows are more commonly called ranks and are numbered one through eight. The columns are called files and are ordered as a through h. These distinctions are very useful in correspondence games and also in studying chess strategy. Some rare specialty boards will deviate from this established convention but they will account for continuity somehow.
Chess boards are most often purchased in chess sets which also include all the pieces needed to play the game. But they can also be bought separately or even made at home with a little skill. Whatever means you use to acquire one, it’s guaranteed to bring you countless hours of fun.
