Chess Game

A chess game could take years to learn how to play properly but here are some very basic ideas to keep in mind as you pick up the game. Volumes have been written on chess strategy from the beginner level on up to advanced tactics. Hence, this should not be considered a proper introduction to chess.

The fundamental concept of chess game strategy is to always have a value assigned to each of your pieces. Keep this value of your own pieces matched against that of your foes. What makes this process difficult is that as the game changes, relative values of your pieces are also likely to change. For instance, at the start of a game all pawns are generally considered to be worth one, but as the game progresses, pawns that have moved down the board are now more valuable than ones that remain in their starting positions. Chess is a fluid game; don’t let initial evaluations of worth remain in place as the game changes.

Fundamental chess game tactics include both short-term and long term consequences. For a beginner, often only short term actions can be anticipated but as a player gains experience many moves can be calculated before they are even played. Even for experienced players though, early game tactics are mostly short-term in order to winnow out eventual longer-term strategies.
